M&S is committed to making the publishing process an environmentally friendly one by printing books on paper made with 100% post-consumer waste. The initiative, which began by printing 10 titles this way, continues to grow.Originating in Toronto in 1906, the firm had some 160 titles in print by the time of World War One. Now, ninety-six years after the company's founding, there are over 1,000 titles in print and the list of prestigious authors continues to grow. M&S has been described by Avie Bennett, the company's previous chairman, as "a great Canadian institution [and] a vital part of Canada's cultural heritage."
