Description

It is our passion to meet immediate need in support of long-term staff in each of the countries. It also our passion to focus on “value-added” activities that support the work of those staff long after the team has left. Finally, it is our passion to focus on skills development with the children and youth in our care, leaving them prepared to take next steps in their own journey of restoration and community engagement.

The Ark was founded in 1987 and has been an ever-growing ministry. Currently, there are eight children's homes which house ten children each plus their house parents, for a total of capacity for 80 rescued orphans and children at risk. The campus consists of houses, a chapel, an office, and outdoor recreation spaces. The ARK nurtures a relationship between the child and their house-parents, and focuses on raising productive members of their community and active disciples of Jesus Christ.

Dan Bird lives with his wife, Jean, in Komoka Ontario. They have 4 children and 9 grandchildren. The Birds have attended West Park Church, London since 1980. Dan currently serves on the elder board of West Park. He is the founder and a co-owner, with his son Randy, of Forest City Fire Protection Ltd. The entire Bird family is passionate about and have been involved with Kids Alive for over 10 years and have traveled to KA homes in Zambia, Haiti Kenya and Peru.

The New Horizons Center operates in an area called "Zahrani" in Southern Lebanon, providing vital education, health care, vocational training, assistance with developing micro-enterprise activities - and the love of Christ. The families that we are working with live in very basic tents, constructed of plastic, corrugated iron and wood. These "homes" have only limited access to basic utilities and often do not have running water, proper washing facilities, or electricity. Very few of these people have had any formal education, and many are illiterate.

Kids Alive "Keeping Families Together" program in Misisi seeks to combat this problem through providing a unique and thoroughly holistic model of care. By merging the Care Center model that has been established successfully in several Kids Alive fields with a more 'family-based focus', our program aims to provide optimum benefit to the orphans and vulnerable children within Misisi Compound.
