The International Federation on Ageing (IFA) is an international non-government organization (NGO) with a membership base of NGOs, the corporate sector, academia, governments and individuals. Founded in 1973, the IFA is a point of connection and a platform for knowledge exchange for those representing the needs and interests of millions of older people across the world. The IFA mission is to 'generate positive change for older people throughout the world by stimulating, collecting, analyzing and disseminating information on rights, policies and practices that improve the quality of life of all persons as they age.' We believe that irrespective of health, gender, race, religion or economic status, all older persons have a right to a life of dignity that is free of abuse and discrimination, and free from poverty, neglect, homelessness and malnutrition. Our mission is underpinned by the principles of key international agreements such as the United Nations Principles of Older Persons of 1991, the Montreal Declaration on the Rights of Older People of 1999 and the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing of 2002.
