Innisfil Ball Hockey Club

Description

Ball Hockey was first established in Innisfil in the spring of 2003, consisting of 150 children in 3 divisions. The children that year ranged in age from 5 to 13 years old. They played their games out of the Stroud Curing Club located in the north end of the Stroud Arena complex. A little modification such as portable boards, and a tabletop score clock were used, and worked out nicely. The first year we sent one team, The Innisfil Wave to the Ontario Provincial Championships. We also participated in Innisfil Summerfest in 2003, running 2 ball hockey courts at Innisfil Beach park. 2 Barrie Colt players took part in the action, signing autograghs but also playing in the games and giving the kids tips. In our second year we increased registration to over 200 children in 4 divisions, the 2 younger divisions (Tyke and Novice) played in the Stroud Curling Club and the 2 older divisions (Atom and Peewee) played in the Stroud Arena, and the Lefroy Arena. We sent 3 teams to the Ontario Provincial Championships held in Barrie in late July 2004. The Novice Wave made it to, and won the B championship game over Newmarket 3-2 giving us our first Ontario Championship. We also expanded, and improved our in house Summerfest Tournament to include 4 ball hockey courts and introduced new games such as the Top Shot and Radar Challenge. we had a barbeque to feed the crowd, and free bottled water for all the players.
