Industrial Surface Technologies Incorporated, formerly Island Industrial Chrome Company Limited was originally formed some forty years ago in Prince George BC, known then as Industrial Chrome. In 1979 the founder moved to Campbell River as a retirement move. However upon settling into the community of Campbell River, Mr. Karl Bueckert (founder) could not help noticing a lack of services in the field he was so successful at in Prince George. It wasn ’t long before he had decided to bring down a couple of employees from Prince George in order to open up and establish Island Industrial Chrome Company Limited From that point on the business was hugely successful and grew rapidly through the eighties and into the nineties. During that time period Karl finally decided to retire and sold the business to his son Ken. In the mid nineties Dale Finnerty having worked for the company since 1987, took up partnership with Ken and continued his role in sales and marketing. As the resource based businesses that were the main clients for the company went through the substantial downsizing, and addressed the environmental concerns of the time, it was decided to diversify the company and move into the Thermal Coating Industry. Diversifying into Thermal Coatings has allowed the company to move in another direction, one that has growth and potential for the future. The environmentally friendly factor alone has made the move to Thermal Coatings a smart move for the company. In 2002 it was decided to change the company name to, Industrial Surface Technologies Incorporated, to better reflect its diversification into Thermal Coatings.
