A Frederique Constant watch must pass six quality control tests before being released for resale - a water resistance test, timekeeping accuracy in three different positions, discoloration, particle and scratch checks, a manual functionality test, a strong rotation force test, and a test involving a custom-made machine that simulates the movement of a wrist.

There is no licensing body which requires jewellery appraisers to attain a minimum level of education/experience before practicing. Until legislation is passed to protect the public from those who are unqualified, the burden is on consumers to investigate a company's reputation and question its appraiser's competence. Hamilton Watch Company was founded in Lancaster, PA in 1892. The company set out to produce "America's finest watch," and began with high quality, American-made pocket and wristwatches.
