Horizon Entertainment was originally formed in New York in 1989 as Film Horizon Inc., a feature film development and production company. The company's first film was BY THE SWORD starring Academy Award winning actor F. Murray Abraham. In 1991 Film Horizon moved to Los Angeles and produced GALAXIES ARE COLLIDING with Emmy Award winning actor Kelsey Grammar. In 1993, Film Horizon was renamed Horizon Entertainment, and moved to Vancouver, B.C. where President Rob Straight founded Everest Entertainment. Everest produced Horizon developed properties MANAGUA, starring Academy Award winning actor Lou Gossett Jr, and LASERHAWK starring Star Wars' star Mark Hammil. During this period, Everest was actively involved in Canadian distribution, releasing pictures for Orion and Live Entertainment as well as selected Canadian production companies. Horizon continued to develop screenplays and television shows while establishing a foreign sales company to distribute third party producer's films. The company quickly established a dynamic catalogue of critically acclaimed feature films and feature documentaries from Canada, the US, The Middle East, South Africa, and Asia. In 1999, Horizon Entertainment became the exclusive feature film agent for Tokyo-based Studio, Kadokawa Herald Pictures, representing such renowned titles as Hideo Nakata's THE RING, and DARK WATER, Takashi Shimizu's JU-ON THE GRUDGE and Takashi Miike's THE GREAT YOKAI WAR.
