Charities Giving is a day at the beach! HOPE is committed to raising money for local charities and over the years has donated more than 3.5 million dollars to over 110 charities. In 2009 proceeds from HOPE Volleyball SummerFest will support: Muscular Dystrophy Canada Mission: Muscular Dystrophy Canada supports the independence and full participation of Canadians with neuromuscular disorders. We assist individuals to participate in the decisions that affect them and collaborate with others for social change. We fund research to improve the quality of life of people with neuromuscular disorders and to find a cure. HOPE will be helping Muscular Dystrophy Canada with their Mobility Equipment Program. Next to finding a cure, the highest priority for individuals with neuromuscular disorders is the need for equipment. Having a diagnosis of a neuromuscular disorder is expensive: wheelchairs, scooters, orthotics, hospital beds, and other essential equipment and repairs can cost tens of thousands of dollars annually. Muscular Dystrophy Canada 's mobility equipment program has been assisting people with neuromuscular disorders to beat these challenges for a significant part of our history. The program not only aids in enhancing the quality of life and safety of the individuals they serve but also allows them to remain independent and active in their own community. The program does not replace government funding or health insurance but instead acts in partnership with these bodies. Most importantly they are able to help provide funding for these vital pieces of equipment when all other funding resources are exhausted. Habitat for Humanity
