Smiley's Home Distilling specializes in home-distilling books, equipment, supplies, and expertise. Ian has a B.Sc. from the University of Ottawa, and is the author of Making Pure Corn Whiskey. He has extensive experience in all-grain brewing and home winemaking, which led to his research in home distilling. He has spent many years adapting commercial and laboratory distillation processes to small-scale inexpensive home operations. Each book and each apparatus featured on Smiley's Home Distilling is architected around advanced scientific principles. It was through advanced brewing and fermentation science that Ian was able to develop small-scale techniques of emulating authentic whiskey-making processes in the home. These processes are very systematic and consistent, and are capable of producing the full range of whiskies. The same processes can be easily modified for other flavour-positive spirits such as rum, brandy, and schnapps.
