Description

In the summer of 1973 Dr. Yasha Smushkin, a sports teacher with a Ph.D. from Moscow University of Sport and Physical Culture, started working in North America. He applied his knowledge of figure skating, gymnastics and other sports to hockey, thus establishing Canadian Ice Skating Institute (CISI) and Dr. Smushkin's Hockey School of Excellence. These institutions became the first private organizations in North America dedicated to the year-round development of individual hockey skills. In 1997 CISI Inc. expanded it's operation in North America and established the Canadian Ice Skating Institute-US Inc. In 2005 we extended our operations in Europe and opened camps in Sweden. (click here for the Camps page) On numerous occasions CISI programs made history, introducing concepts and methods that were later copied and followed by many other hockey schools. For instance, CISI was the first to implement a 6 and 7-hour on-ice daily training schedule in North America that is now common practice among hockey camps. CISI was also the first ever to use on-ice machinery such as springboards, carousels and parallel bars for the development of skating ability in hockey players. Dr. Smushkin developed the Computerized Vision Thinking online programs "Track the Puck", "Dynamic Vision", "Wide Angle Vision" and "Hockey Sniper" the newest technocological training advancement in the world of hockey today.
