Hitachi Energy, a global leader in electrification, revealed a $270 million CAD investment to enlarge its power transformer production plant close to Montreal, Canada. This expansion, part of a $9 billion USD worldwide investment initiative, will almost triple the facility’s yearly output, generate around 500 new positions, and bolster Canada’s clean-energy manufacturing capabilities. The Varennes plant, among the world’s largest HVDC transformer manufacturers and CSA N299-certified for nuclear quality assurance, will cater to rising demands from renewable energy projects, data centers, and energy-intensive sectors like mining and steel production. The initiative aligns with Hitachi Energy’s commitment to achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2030 and underscores Canada’s pivotal role in the global energy transition.
