Description
This vast, wild land is one of the last untamed wilderness areas of the world. Known as the Serengeti of North America, the Muskwa-Kechika lies at the heart of Canada's spectacular northern Rocky Mountains...4.4 million hectares (over 17,000 sq. miles) of protected wilderness! (See maps.) High & Wild Wilderness Safaris is a fly-in resort comprised of three well established base camps and a multitude of remote campsites scattered across 1500 square miles of wilderness. For over 40 years, the family of owner/operator Barry Tompkins has welcomed guests from around the world to this wilderness paradise. Visitors are amazed at the abundance of wildlife. Not surprising! This park boasts the highest concentration of wildlife in the Western Hemisphere. High & Wild Wilderness Safaris main lodge is located at the foot of Horse Shoe Mountain (after which it is named). Two more camps, at Blue Lake and Lower Prairie , feature frontier-style log cabins for our more adventurous guests. Take advantage of special package rates which include a wide variety of expeditions and activities . Heli-hike the glaciers and photograph exquisite wildflowers in the high alpine. Go bird watching and see both golden eagles and bald eagles. View moose, elk, mountain goats and sheep at their respective mineral licks. Canoe across Blue Lake or enjoy a leisurely float trip down the Prairie River with frequent stops to swim and fish. Take lessons in rifle and bow shooting, horseback riding, and gold panning. Hit the trail on horseback for a few hours or, if you prefer, head for the high country and camp out overnight under the stars.
