Just as the birds fly, so has our summer gone. We are now enjoying the beautiful colours of autumn. It was a quiet summer with no minor or major trips. Early on, I had a visit from my daughter Judy (from Quadra Island). I enjoyed her visit over a few days which went all too quickly. Myrna and Cam (Winnipeg) were here for a week. They have decided to give tenting a try once more. Here is Myrna after finally figuring out how to set it up. We had a great week together and again it went far too fast. Others who dropped in for short visit: Nephew Dr. Ted Thorpe, (Ph.D. in education and Masters in Computer Technology) and wife Gail, from Burlington then another nephew, Brian & wife Diane Ward who just recently moved from Saskatoon to Edmonton. I was kept busy with gardening and working in my "Henri's Woodwork Shop". As my items sold, I quickly replaced them, which kept the old hammer and saws busy. The garden produced right from the start, even though it was a cool, wet and late spring. I soon was enjoying garden fresh, lettuce, radish and onions. We're now enjoying: tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, beets and greens, swiss chard, spinach (3 types), yellow, green and scarlet runner beans, and will later have parsnips. A friend gave me several pails of apples and crabapples. It was hot weather and it is a messy job, so I moved my hot plate out to the shop and I made apple sauce by the gallons and froze it all down. It will sure taste good this winter...
