Privately owned, Henlex was incorported in 1954. In 1984, it emerged with new technology that reduced airflows by 90% by introducing high-velocity-low-volume air removal systems rather than the conventional low-velocity-high-volume systems. Henlex Inc. custom designs, manufactures and installs high-velocity-low-volume air extractors to remove workplace pollutants such as fine particulates (dusts and fibres) volatile organic chemicals (solvents), metal fumes (welding) and smoke (molten metal casting). The system has been widely installed in vocational and training schools.


Every system is custom designed to meet individual requirements by producing a "micro-environment" that extracts contaminants at its source of release or production. This prevents the worker from inhaling undesirable substances and keeps pollutants out of the general workplace. Henlex has patented mobile swing arms to permit easy and precise movement of the intake nozzle. Henlex also produces special high-speed turbines to allow high-velocity-low-volume air removal. Systems are designed not to exceed noise levels of 80 dB. An added benefit of the system includes low volumes of make-up air, which is important for energy savings in cold climates or in air conditioned buildings.


The company has the skills to design the appropriate air treatment system for exhausted air. Henlex geographical markets include Canada (85% of sales), the United States and Mexico. Henlex provides custom-designed products and services. Because of the required technical skills, Henlex usually only offers "concession" arrangements where it trains, gives technical assistance and financial support to help launch associated firms. After a negotiated period of time, the firm becomes autonomous, though usually voluntarily remains part of a network.


Henlex is willing to consider licensing agreements or other strategic alliances. The firm spends 3% of sales on research and development, especially in the areas of improving turbine and microcaptor designs and performance.
