We live in what is most often referred to as one of the 'best' countries in the world and, within Canada we live in what we believe to be one of the 'safest' communities. There are, however, many homes in our Halton community where it is neither the 'best' place to be nor the 'safest' place to be. In these homes women and children are often terrorized by the abuse they are subjected to at the hands of those individuals who are charged with their care or who have pledged their great affection. Violence perpetrated by anyone, be it man, woman or child can not and should not be tolerated. It is as a result of many of these unsafe environments that Halton Women's Place exists. Our mission is to end violence against women and we believe that this can be best achieved not only by the provision of our safe shelters but by an overall community strategy and commitment to stopping violence. Halton Women's Place has operated since 1980. We attempt through public education and advocacy to effect social change, which will lead us to 'a safer tomorrow'. ...
