Description
From the outset, Gunther's Building Center Ltd. was dedicated to the supply of specialized interior finishing materials for the residential construction industry. Gunther Kockerbeck founded Gunther's Building Supplies Ltd. in 1954. In 1971, GBS became a holding company and Gunther's Building Center Ltd. was formed as the operating company, which is familiar to many Calgarians. Gunther had the good sense to see that Calgary's homebuilders needed a one-stop shop for their interior finishing needs - doors, moldings, plywood, finish lumber and hardware. His insight and hard work in developing the finish package concept resulted in the rotary and ribbon mahogany packages and related hardware options being introduced into Calgary in the late 50's. Over the years, the interior finish packages offered by Gunther's have evolved and help set fashion trends in Calgary's housing market.
