From its modest beginnings in 1948 with two trucks, Grimshaw Trucking L.P. has grown into a highly respected transportation company in Western Canada and continues to expand. Our history actually started before 1948, when Albert Hamilton began work on the Alaska Highway project. When completed he moved to Grimshaw, Alberta and began hauling cement from the railhead in Grimshaw to Hay River and return with fish. At the time there was just a bush trail north of Grimshaw. Then in the 50's Grimshaw began service from Edmonton to Hay River. Early in 1960 they purchased the Peace River operation from Northern Freightways. In 1964 they began service to Grande Prairie and Calgary. In 1965 they purchased Ed's Transport from High Prairie. In 1967 service opened up into Slave Lake. During the winter of 1967 we were instrumental in building a road into Waterways, Alberta. This is now known as Fort McMurray. Many parts of the road were over muskeg and required the service of a bombardier and across the smaller creeks logs were used to help support the weight. In 1973 Northern Transportation Co. Ltd. acquired us, a northern waterways Barge Corporation owned by the Government of Canada. During 1976 service was started to Hinton. In 1985 NTCL was sold to the Inuvialuit from the Western Arctic and the Inuits from the Eastern Arctic. It was during this ownership that service began to Edson, Valleyview...
