Description

The Greenheck Vektor-MD includes design features that ensure service is quick, easy and safe for maintenance personnel. Here are some significant key features to selling Vektor systems. Bifurcated Opening The bifurcated opening is the "teardrop" cavity located in the body of the Vektor-MD housing. Components within this cavity are completely isolated from the contaminated airstream. This provides a safe means to maintain the motor, bearings, belts and pulleys. In addition, easy access results in less downtime if any maintenance is required. Other manufacturers use traditional "clean air" inline centrifugal or mixed flow fans where access to internal components may require cranes to lower the fans to a suitable service location. Also, maintenance staff will require protection because they will be in contact with contaminated housing components. Arrangement 2 Design (Direct Drive) The innovative design of the direct drive Vektor-MD provides easy access and removal of the motor within the bifurcated opening. The motor is connected to the fan shaft with a rigid steel coupling which allows easy motor removal. There is no need to contact the contaminated wheel or remove the fan from its mounting location simply to service a motor. Other lab exhaust suppliers use an arrangement 4 direct drive configuration where the wheel is directly connected to the motor shaft. Removal of the motor requires contacting and disconnecting the contaminated fan wheel. Additionally, wheel access for an arrangement 4 may mean completely removing the fan from its mounted location for access to the wheel. This is clearly a more time consuming and expensive approach than servicing a Vektor-MD. An endurance benefit of the Vektor-MD arrangement 2 is the use of an industrial bearing sized for L(10) life in excess of 200,000 hours. Supporting the wheel weight and axial thrust loading with this industrial bearing reduces loading on the motor bearings. This results in much higher motor bearing life. Damper Removal Both the isolation and bypass dampers are completely accessible from the exterior of the system. This provides a safe and effi cient way for maintenance personnel to perform service to the dampers without accessing the contaminated airstream. Some manufacturers require damper access from inside the bypass plenum! This is the last place you want to crawl into to perform any system maintenance. While Greenheck's easy-to-service dampers are a great feature, the fact is that our Vektor-MD utilizes HCD industrial dampers that are rated for 15 inches wg. Just like the rest of the Vektor system, they are built to last.
