#1 Can my child play for Glenlake? In order to be eligible to play for Glenlake, your child must live in one of our member communities. These communities are: Altadore, Bankview, Bel-Aire, Beltline, Brittania, CFB-Lincoln Park, Chinook Park, Cliff Bungalow, Eagle Ridge, Elbow Park, Elboya, Erlton, Kelvin Grove, Kingsland, Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Mayfair, Meadowlark Park, Mission, Lower Mount Royal, North Glenmore Park, Parkhill/Stanley Park, Rideau Park, South Calgary, Upper Mount Royal and Windsor Park. If you live in any of the communities listed below, you should register with the Trails West Hockey Association for the 2009/2010 season and advise them of your desire to play with Glenlake prior to these communities fully joining Glenlake for the 2010/2011 hockey season: Killarney/Glengarry, Richmond Roxboro, Rutland Park, Scarboro, Scarboro/Sunalta, Shaganappi, Spruce Cliff, Sunalta, If your child does not live in one of these communities, your child may be able to play for Glenlake only if certain conditions are met. Please contact our registrar at glenlakeregistrar@shaw.ca Glenlake has hockey programs for children from ages 5 to 17. #2 What’s all the talk about boundary changes and mergers ? Hockey Calgary’s member associations have redrawn the boundaries for hockey associations in Calgary. As part of that process, the Elbow Park Minor Hockey Association and Glenlake have merged. All players who played with Elbow Park in 2008/2009 will now play with Glenlake. Welcome to all those players and parents! If you are an Elbow Park parent with questions about the merger and how it will affect you, please contact Lou Cusano at transition@glenlakehockey.com Lou is the former Elbow Park President who has joined our board to make sure that your transition to Glenlake is as smooth as possible. In addition to the merger, we also welcome new players and parents from Kingsland, Meadowlark Park and Windsor Park to Glenlake. We want your transition to be as smooth as possible and welcome any questions you have. Please email us at hawks@glenlakehockey.com for information We will be having a “Welcome to Glenlake” information session in late August for all newcomers. Please check our website through the summer for further information. #3 How does novice hockey work? Hockey Calgary is introducing the “Novice Development League” in the 2009/2010 season. The league introduces a more formal and structured approach to novice hockey (7 & 8 year olds) runs. The NDL also dedicates September and October to practice and scrimmage time and only allows games to be played after November 1. This will allow players to better learn the fundamental skills of the game before actually playing the game. #4 How much does it cost?
