Throughout the years Gilchrist Vending pioneered innovative coin operated devices throughout Canada, becoming a leader in "firsts" within the vending and amusement fields as it expanded its offices across Canada in the 1950 s. Gilchrist distributed Canada s first parking meters, as well as the first cigarette and food vending machines, dollar bill changers and shoe shine machines. Gilchrist Vending was also innovative in its first-hand responsibility for first allowing phonographs, shuffleboards and pool tables to operate in licensed Toronto hotels, not only in Toronto, but in all of Ontario. Gilchrist Vending was also the first to distribute the Space Invader and Pac-man Video games so popular in the 1980 s.
