Georgian Bay Country

Description

The tourism organization, Georgian Bay Country is an initiative of the Parry Sound Area Community Business and Development Centre (CB & DC). The Parry Sound Area CB & DC is a federally supported not-for-profit Community Futures Development Corporation governed by volunteers. The mandate of the Parry Sound Area CB & DC is "to be the regional economic development agency for the West Parry Sound Area". Supporting the tourism avenue of this mandate, Georgian Bay Country aims to be the pre-eminent tourism-marketing agency for the region of East Georgian Bay. Georgian Bay Country was established to create a marketing brand for the region of Port Severn to Killarney, including the inland communities of West Parry Sound, to develop programs and initiatives aimed at promoting increased tourism, to facilitate the development of tourism related infrastructure, attractions and events, and to be the voice for the region's tourism sector. While the promotion of tourism is considered desirable because of its favourable impact on the economy, GBC will guide all its actions with respect to the environment. Protection of the environmental characteristics of this area is considered to be essential and an overriding operating principle of the organization.
