Gems of Hope

Description

Founded in 1982, Gems of Hope is a Canadian not-for-profit organization working to support marginalized women in developing countries. We are non-sectarian with no political affiliation. Our "micro" business loans enable women to earn a living in order to provide their families with meals, clothing and shelter, and the means to overcome dependence. Gems of Hope emphasizes micro-enterprise in conjunction with skills training, community health development, and human development opportunities in order to maximize the chance of success for each woman. We partner with local non-government organizations (NGOs) and leaders in participating communities to collectively design and generate the methodologies of all our projects. We implement initiatives that cater to the specific needs of each individual community. We pride ourselves on taking a sustainable approach to development that strengthens the management and delivery of our projects by building the institutional capacity of our partners.
