Description

Gallus Immunotech was founded in 1994 to promote the remarkable and humane process of developing polyclonal antibodies in chickens. Chickens produce an immunoglobulin (IgY), which can be isolated from blood or egg yolk. As a tool in proteomics and diagnostics, there are many reasons to choose a chicken to produce your polyclonal antibody.

Dr. Kelsye Coulter, a trained immunologist and co-founder of Gallus Immunotech, learned about immunizing chickens from a colleague when she had to generate a polyclonal antibody for her research. The colleague explained that the chicken antibody (IgY) could easily be retrieved from the egg yolk in large quantities, making it unnecessary to bleed the animal. An animal lover at heart, Kelsye was immediately intrigued with the possibilities of harvesting polyclonal antibodies from eggs.

Many researchers are now choosing to make their custom polyclonal antibody in chickens. There are many reasons to do so. Some choose to immunize a hen and collect the eggs because it is the least invasive way to produce polyclonal antibodies. The eggs can be stored for up to 3 months in the refrigerator or the yolks separated and frozen in delipidation buffer (Reagent A of the Eggspress IgY Purification Kit) . For some, the attraction is that chickens often produce better antibodies to conserved mammalian proteins.

Want to perform your own custom chicken antibody purification? Compared to the competition: our kit is cheaper to buy (per mg IgY purified) the yield obtained is 50% higher than our major competitor The antibody purification kit comes with detailed instructions. Furthermore, should you have problems with your kit, we provide technical support on the antibody purification protocol. More about our our IgY antibody purification kit. ..

Overview For those customers requiring large scale production of IgY, we can meet your specific requirements. All laboratory work is performed using standard operating procedures to assure the highest quality of your custom product Depending on your immunogen, how much IgY is required and over what time-frame, we will design a custom project that will suit your needs. For bulk quantities of IgY, we usually recommend multiple hen immunizations and the pooling of their eggs for IgY purification.
