Description

Gala-Van is a family owned and operated business in Victoria, BC, Canada. In 1974, Terri Fox and her sister Marg McTaggart started Gala-Van Catering Ltd. With assistance from Terri's husband Bud and Marg's husband George, Gala-Van grew to be one of the biggest catering companies in the Victoria area during the late 1970's. Their diverse clientele included: the Corporation of Saanich (Gala-Van catered the first Saanich New Year's levy); the R.C.A. Officers' Mess at the Victoria Armoury; the Garth Homer Centre (where Gala-Van was the exclusive caterer); and the da Vinci Centre (where they were also the exclusive caterer). In 1981, Marg and Bud wanted to move on to other things, so following many requests by customers to rent their catering dishes and glassware, Gala-Van Catering was sold and Terri and George started Gala-Van Party Rentals Ltd. Starting in a small office at 69 W. Burnside, then moving to a large space and then an even larger space at 101 W. Burnside, the business continued to grow. In 1990, George wanted to retire and his half of the business was sold to Terri and her daughter Linda Poilievre. As the demand grew for party supplies and decorations, Gala-Van expanded from predominately a party rental store to a full service party store, offering party rentals, wedding and party supplies & decorations, a personalized imprinting service and once again a catering service for cash and carry party food trays...
