Description

GDG Environment Ltd. is entering its 26th year of continuous operation focusing on mosquito surveillance and control technologies. The company was formed in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec in 1984 to focus on the biological control of destructive and nuisance insects. GDG pioneered the concept of biological control of biting flies to improve the quality of life in Canada. The initial biological "nuisance control" business segment has expanded to the point where GDG now operates over 40 successful municipal control programs annually.

When West Nile virus (WNv) broached the Canadian border, GDG contributed its expertise in vector surveillance and control to the initiation of federal, provincial and municipal emergency plans and prevention programs. The company has operated WNv focused larval control programs for numerous major municipalities in Ontario and Quebec, has operated the adult surveillance trapping network for the Province of Quebec and the City of Ottawa, and has developed the surveillance database now used by the Provinces of Quebec, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. In 2006 GDG consulted to the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in the development of their surveillance database, consistent with he structure developed by our company for other public sector clients.
GDG is uniquely capable of offering a comprehensive management programs. With regular communication with stakeholders, our approach allows managers to focus on the interpretation of surveillance data and decision making vs. being consumed with the management of operations.

In 2006 we focused on enhancing our tools for the mapping and characterization of mosquito breeding sites in parallel with the development of optimized sampling plans under several contracts in Ontario and British Columbia. This expertise allows us to offer tools to enhance the evolution and efficacy of vector and nuisance control programs under varying scenarios.

In short, GDG has made significant efforts to add scientific thought to control programs. Our objective is to implement the base requirements while adding long term value to the protection of human health, quality of life and the environment. For all of these reasons, GDG is now in a position to offer a comprehensive set of planning services.

GDG Environnement Ltée was awarded a mark of excellence by the
Hydro-Quebec society, regarding the high quality of the services supplied, a highly regarded distinction in the province of Quebec.

The company was nominated as the services enterprise of the year
1993-95, by the Chamber of Commerce of Cap-de-la-Madeleine.

The firm is an active member of both, The Environmental
Specialists and the Biologists Associations of Quebec.
