G.C. Duke Equipment Ltd. is a privately owned corporation located in Burlington, Ontario, Canada specializing in the distribution of commercial grounds maintenance equipment. The company was started by Clint and Bonnie Duke in 1948 under the name of Duke Lawn Equipment. Mr. and Mrs. Duke realized the potential of the lawn care industry in post World War II Ontario and began to acquire the distribution rights for several lines of power equipment. Initially, Duke Lawn Equipment, sold only commercial lawn care equipment such as was used by golf courses and municipalities. However, as the home landscape industry began to expand Mr. Duke started marketing several lines of smaller power equipment through an extensive dealer network. By the mid-1960's, Duke Lawn Equipment had become a major player in the sales and service of commercial and homeowner grounds maintenance equipment in the Province of Ontario. In 1982, the company made the decision to expand into the Province of Quebec and opened a full service branch in Montreal. During the late 1970's and early 1980's the company s range of equipment which it marketed had grown beyond just turf maintenance equipment to include such items as 750 horsepower airport snowblowers, specialty firetrucks, sewer cleaners, street sweepers and airport rescue vehicles. To better reflect the broad range of equipment that it now distributed the company s name was changed from Duke Lawn Equipment Ltd. to G.C. Duke Equipment Ltd. in 1983. In 1995,...
