This is caused by the motor of the furnace starting. When the motor first starts it draws significantly more power than when it is running. This can affect light levels for a few moments. This problem isn't unusual and while an irritation shouldn't be a cause for concern. Light bulbs don't seem to last very long? This is probably the single biggest complaint I hear from homeowners and unfortunately there is little that can be done about it, except to dim the lamps to increase their life. I know of no electrical problem that can occur within a home that would affect lamp life expectancy. If there is a problem with voltage fluctuations, it is because of the power authority. But this is very unlikely and there is nothing the homeowner can do about it. But the more usual cause of short lamp life is low quality light bulbs, better light bulbs last longer. Lights flicker in all areas of the home, some lights in the house work others don't, electric range will only get warm not hot. Dryer tumbles but will not dry clothes. If you find yourself suffering with these symptoms in your home in my experience it is usually a hydro problem.
