Fer-Marc Equipment Ltd. was established May 8, 1962 by founding partners Doug Ferguson and Tony Marceca. The business relationship, based on a handshake and a gentleman's agreement, was the result of the acquisition of the remaining assets of their previous employer, Frost Machinery of Winnipeg. With Frost entering into voluntary bankruptcy, the new partners combined their confidence and energy to launch the new endeavor. Extensive industry experience provided Doug and Tony with a clear understanding of what it would take to achieve success. The business strategy included several fundamental principles: - Operation of the company on a "pay-as-you-go" basis. - Careful selection of lines, which will meet the needs of a diversified construction industry. - Employment of experienced personnel, familiar with the industry. - Maintenance of well stocked parts departments for instantaneous replacement when required by the customer. The plaque in Tony's office reflected his personal philosophy to business. The message read: "There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man's lawful prey." Fer-Marc Equipment began operations from two branches: 971 Erin St. in Winnipeg, Manitoba and 1230 St. John St. in Regina, Saskatchewan.
