Description
1. THE FIRM
Evolu-Tech Ltd. was incorporated under the Canada Business
Corporations Act on September 11, 1981.
2. THE MISSION
Evolu-Tech's mission consists in offering environment-friendly, economical, energy-saving water treatment.
3. CONTEXT SETTING
For years now, POLLUTION has been deplorably battering our environment. Our Mag-O-Pure treatment method has helped to deal with this ever-intensifying assault on our environment.
All water treatment boils down to a set of processes acting upon water's components following analysis of its physical-chemical elements. A given treatment's validity and acceptability should come in proportion with the efficiency limits and operational costs of products and/or equipment used therein. Considering these facts, we think that the patented Mag-O-Pure treatment offers an economic ratio surpassing any other method's based on obvious advantages:
a) eliminates all need for water softeners, its maintenance and salts sent to sewers (economy and environment protection);
b) reduces chemical treatment costs by 90 to 99% (economy and environment protection);
c) decreases steam boiler blowdown requirements by 90 to
100% (economy and econergy);
d) reduces and/or controls scale deposits (economy and econergy);
e) maintains production capacity and/or eliminates down time in water-cooled machinery such as plastic extruders, whose dies require periodic acid cleaning (economy and environment protection);
f) maintains and/or increases cooling system efficiency by preventing fouling and dirt accumulation in condensers (economy and econergy);
Since the fourties, magnetic water treatment has periodically aroused interest and stirred up curiosity in the industrial and scientific communities.
Studies conducted by American scientists on magnetic water treatment have led to contradictory conclusions. Conflicting results from empirical tests or fundamental-type studies have thus combined to generate a state of ambiguity over magnetic water treatment.
Whether through lack of knowledge on the part of the public or whether due to privatization of information on the subject, an exclusive use of chemicals in fighting lime scale deposits generated by hard water seems to have developed and to be deeply installed in our society's mind. This general trend is worrisome by its very nature. In any case, some people's ignorance and others' suspicious and/or opportunistic recklessness end up being detrimental to everyone.
4. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
From 1981 to 1991, we focused our research and development on a magnetic water treatment for commercial and industrial applications.
The potential market was enormous, and we had to overcome widespread skepticism toward magnetic water treatment, which too many considered "an illusion", "magic", "a black box", or "a gadget".
4.1 INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH AID PROGRAM (IRAP)
To clarify this point, we requested an IRAP in November, 1987, and mandated Dr. Carmen Jolicoeur, Professor at Sherbrooke
University, to examine and highlight all possible effects of magnetic fields on lime scale formation.
The study conducted by Sherbrooke University allowed us to confirm that in some cases, magnetic fields produced an effect on particle's morphology. Even though conflicting results were observed, they revealed facts of an obvious interest, as they suggested applicability conditions.
In the end, this study motivated us to review and overhaul the magnetic catalyzer's design regarding water flow's relative geometry with respect to magnetic field angles. The blowdown frequency had to be eliminated or reduced, and a filtration and circulation system was integrated; we had patentable solutions at hand.
4.2 PATENTS
The field results obtained confirmed our theories; we had thus discovered the application method for magnetic water treatment.
So we applied for a Canadian patent on June 18, 1990 and an US patent on June 11, 1991.
US patent was issued on September 22, 1992, and
Canadian patent on November 22, 1996.
It is important to note here that our patents concern water magnetization method.
4.3 INDUSTRIAL QUALIFICATION
Acceptance of our patented method was not yet secured, especially concerning pressurized steam boilers applications.
This led us to apply for a second IRAP for a Mag-O-Pure system's performance evaluation on a steam boiler.
The study conducted by the Centre de Recherche Industrielle du
Québec (CRIQ) clearly points out the Mag-O-Pure system's capacity to control boiler scale deposits even with a hardness exceeding 1,000 mg/l. This study's results established a performance credibility for our ecologically harmless treatment. These can be verified by consulting the CRIQ's
Report N° RDQ-92-693(R1).
Mag-O-Pure systems were implemented on the Montreal Harbor locomotive maintenance shop's steam boilers in 1987, and are still operating efficiently to this date. Sales have been concluded with prestigious clients such as Bell Canada, The
Canadian Coast Guard and the National Research Council of Canada.
We have overcome all manufacturing, filtration and circulation obstacles, and our product is now finely tuned since 1992.
Member of the Quebec Energy Managers' Association (QEMA),
Evolu-Tech has presented the Mag-O-Pure project at Joliette
COLLEGE as part of the 1995 ENERGIA GALA, and ended up being a finalist in the Environment and Product Supplier categories.
