Description
I am the parent of three grown children. Although I worked outside the home prior to the birth of my first child, I was home with my children when they were young. During this challenging but rewarding time, my days were filled with children's activities and care-taking responsibilities. I gained experience in the many stages of childhood and the different parenting strategies required for these stages. Throughout this time, I became interested in how children grew and developed and in how parents and children interacted together. As my children grew, I began to think about a future career path for myself. Because I was beginning to understand that there were some ways that were better than others for parents and children to interact, I began to consider the idea of working with children and families as a counsellor. I decided that this was the path I wanted to follow and set about to obtain my Master's degree in Counselling Psychology with a focus in counselling children and families. After graduation, I obtained my professional designation as a Registered Clinical Counsellor through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. Since then, I have counselled children and their parents in elementary school, agency, and private practice settings. I have also obtained my credentials as a Registered Play Therapist with the Association for Play Therapy. I was very excited to open my private practice in January 2004, and it has been a privilege for me to provide play therapy and counselling services to children and their parents. I see children and parents in a child-friendly space that accommodates both children and adults. In my spare time, I very much enjoy animals, nature, and being in the outdoors. This includes walking, running, and hiking throughout our vast and wonderful natural areas in British Columbia, often accompanied by my two dogs or various members of my family. I have found that throughout my life, I derive much inner strength from contact with nature.
