Epilepsy Durham Region is a not-for-profit health organization founded in 1987 which is dedicated to the welfare of more than 12,000 individuals touched by epilepsy and their families in Durham Region. Volunteers and staff work to ensure that all people living with this disorder are able to participate in all life experiences, through education advocacy and services. Programs include activities in schools designed to educate the next generation about epilepsy, with the goal to eliminate stigma and discrimination. This agency is governed by a Board of Directors composed of business leaders, professionals and client representatives, and employs an Executive Director and a Community Outreach Education Co-ordinator. Epilepsy Durham Region is funded through individual donations, bequests, in-house fund raising initiatives, foundations and private industries.
