Description

Enermodal Engineering is a consulting firm committed to improving the energy and resource efficiency of buildings and building products. We are recognized authorities in sustainable design, the evaluation of environmentally-appropriate technologies, building inspection and energy audits, technology transfer, and the evaluation of windows, doors, and walls.

Enermodal's clients are located around the globe, and include governments, utilities, product manufacturers, and building professionals, owners, and developers. Our staff, located in Kitchener and Toronto, Ontario and Denver, Colorado, is comprised of mechanican and civil engineers, architects, computer programmers and technical writers. We conduct analytic research, field monitoring and trials, devise and operate computer simulation software, manage building projects, and develop technology transfer strategies.

Sustainable Building Design: Enermodal provides assistance and direction to each member of a building design and construction team to ensure that a project meets exacting standards for energy and resource efficiency. We provide guidance to developers during project planning, to architects on siting, building form and building assemblies, and to engineers on HVAC, lighting systems, and indoor air quality. All team members receive assistance with material specification and sourcing. Lastly, we work with construction site workers to devise appropriate construction methods and to implement construction waste reduction programs. Building Energy Analysis: We combine our technical knowledge of buildings with our experience in computer simulation to optimize building performance. We have developed two respected software programs: ENERPASS (building energy and thermal comfort analysis) and FRAMEplus(complex heat transfer analysis of window frames, doors and wall systems). We are also expert in the use of the following programs: VISION/WINDOW (for the analysis of glazing system performance), SUPERLITE (for daylighting and electrical analysis) and CONTAM (for prediction of indoor pollutant concentrations).

Enermodal helps governments and utilities assess the impact of incentive programs on energy use in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. We can also specify various energy technologies that can reduce annual and peak energy use, improve occupant comfort, and ensure effective building operation at lower cost. Evaluation of New Technology: Product manufacturers and public agencies call upon Enermodal to assesses the technical potential of new technologies through monitoring and computer simulation. Our capabilities range from simple, one-time measurements of temperatures, flows, light levels or pollutant concentration, to long-term data collection and analysis using PC-based data acquisition systems. Detailed computer simulation programs supplement monitored results, and are used to analyse integrated system performance. We use market penetration models to predict future product sales. Building Inspections and Energy Audits: Enermodal provides a complete building inspection and audit service, specializing in mechanical systems and indoor air quality. Our staff identifies building design and operation inefficiencies and recommends economically-viable alternatives. We provide all necessary engineering services to ensure that equipment and systems are designed, installed, and commissioned properly. Technology Transfer and Education: Enermodal holds seminars and workshops on the benefits of environmentally-responsible technologies. Enermodal also hosts training sessions on the use of the FRAMEplus, WINDOW and Vision window computer programs which assist in the design and analysis of windows, doors, and wall systems.

For governments and utilities, Enermodal can help in the development and implementation of energy conservation and demand-side management programs. Our expertise includes training seminars, public awareness campaigns, and guidebook design and publication.
