Emperor Specialty Foods was founded in 1986 as a producer of fresh shiitake mushrooms. In 1993 Emperor began importing fresh product by air from China to supplement its continuing in-house production. Early on, fresh product was destined to local Safeway's and other Western Canadian retailers.

To ensure the highest standards are met and that quality products offered to our customers, Emperor Specialty Foods has memberships with industry trade and credit rating agencies which provides up to date information on all our suppliers and potential suppliers. Strong relationships have been established with respected and established growers from around the world.

Today, Quest is B.C.'s only food exchange and diverts 5.77 million pounds of surplus food from landfills each year, which adds up to $8.26 million worth of food. Quest fills and then empties our 575-m2 warehouse each day, providing food to hundreds of social service agencies in the region feeding 70,000 people a month. Yet Quest is capturing less than 1% of the food being wasted.

The BC Chef's Association was founded in 1958 by a group of dedicated Chef's in the Lower Mainland. They are dedicated to the education of both Junior members and the upgrading skills of Regular members. The Association takes part in annual events including Apprentice competitions, Local & National Conventions & Culinary Salons to publicize and promote the work of the professional Chef's and Cook's in B.C.
