Obviously low maintenance is by far the best looking and, of course, requires the least amount of maintenance. However, many people are against the low maintenance simply based on the price. A couple of things to keep in mind are, what will it cost to stain a wood deck every year or two? What is the life expectancy of a wood deck vs a low maintenance deck? Right now there are low maintenance manufacturers offering 25 even 30 year warranties. Low maintenance material is a much more durable product and in some cases, a heavier product, thus increasing the specifications and cost of the structure. Therefore, the long and short of it, is a treated deck is cheaper but will not last near as long as maintenance free. If you are shopping prices of low maintenance products, and notice that some are cheaper than others, keep in mind that you get what you pay for. In the summer of 2008 I hired Les Wall to build a deck for me, and I was very happy with the end product. I have had a lot of experience with hiring contractors and find most of them are after quantity not quality. With Les it is the opposite, quality is first and foremost in his mind even if the job may take a little longer. My deck was perfectly level, square, and did not have a creak in it when walked on. I was the first of his customers to use a new product on the market called Azek Decking and Les took the time to make sure we were installing it as per the manufacturer's specifications. I would not hesitate to recommend Les to anyone needing his services.

Once your custom deck is complete, you can expect the worksite to be free of debris and garbage. It will look like someone just dropped a beautiful deck in your backyard. All "Treated" deck materials today are treated with a high copper content known as ACQ or Alkaline Copper Quaternary. It is highly corrosive to fasteners such as nails, screws, nuts and bolts etc. that do not meet ACQ approval. Edmonton Custom Decks uses only ACQ approved fasteners as recommended by the decking manufacturer. Whether it is a treated deck or low maintenance vinyl or composite decking, every deck board on your custom deck is fastened with the manufacturers approved fasteners. ?
