Description
The information contained on this page is out of date. We are working to update our entire site. Please contact ECS Safety Services for current information. 1. DRUG TESTING ECS Safety Services Limited follows the guidelines and standards of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), which is the certifying agency for forensic urine drug testing laboratories in Canada and the United States. The collection and testing process follows the U.S Department of Health and Human Services guidelines. We utilize the Dynacare Kasper Medical Labs located in Edmonton, Alberta, which are SAMHSA certified. Testing is for marihuana, cocaine, opiates, amphetamines and phencyclidine at established cut off levels. All positive screening tests are confirmed by gas chromatography / mass spectrometry. We conduct split specimen collections with 5-part chain of custody forms. A split specimen means that the lab tests one specimen and in the event of a positive test, stores the second specimen frozen for one year. This allows for testing of the split specimen by an independent laboratory when an employee makes a request to the MRO. The MRO's single most important function is the review of all laboratory test results and the determination of an alternate medical explanation for positive test results. The MRO will review the Chain of Custody form, review and interpret confirmed positive test results, notify the employee of the confirmed positive test result and provide an opportunity to discuss and review the employees medical history and medical records as appropriate. The MRO provides verified positive and negative test results to the Designated Employer Representative (DER). Our MRO's are Dr. Rick Zabrodski, MD, CCFP(E), CIME, MROCC and Dr. J.D. McDougall, MD, CCFP, CIME, MROCC located in Calgary, Alberta. Both doctors are experienced Occupational Health Physicians and are certified by the Medical Review Officer Certification Council (MROCC). 2. ALCOHOL TESTING Breath testing is the recommended method of testing for the presence of alcohol. The concentration of alcohol in breath accurately reflects the alcohol in the blood and can appropriately indicate the presence and degree of intoxication or impairment at the time the sample is taken. Our breath alcohol testing devices are Intoximeter RBT IVs, which are on the US DOT Conforming Products List and listed in the Criminal Code of Canada as an approved testing device. We follow the Intoximeter Factory Quality Assurance Program and all our Breath Alcohol Technicians are certified by a factory trained and certified instructor. The instruments are mobile and are capable of providing screening and confirmation test results. Confirmation tests are conducted on all screening tests results of .02 or higher. The Employer Designated Representative is immediately contacted and advised of any confirmed test results of .02 or higher. Three-part testing forms are utilized with the employee receiving a certificate immediately following the testing process.
