The newest high school in New Brunswick, Leo Hayes High School, was built on the north side of Fredericton in 1998. A uniquely designed school, the structural framing for the curved classroom section of the school consists of a compositely designed steel beam floor system. This system was used to minimize structural depth, to provide fire protection, to minimize floor vibrations and to create a more aesthetic appearance as the majority of the structure is exposed. The school features a bi-level cafetorium and library/media center that also utilized extensive exposed structural steel.
