About
Durham Youth Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending youth homelessness in Durham Region. Since 2008, it has operated Joanne’s House, the region’s only youth-focused emergency shelter, and now offers a range of programs including rapid rehousing, housing stabilization, and community outreach. Guided by the Housing First for Youth model, the organization emphasizes youth choice, self-determination, and equitable, culturally appropriate supports to help young people achieve lasting housing solutions. In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Durham Youth Services assisted numerous youth, preventing crises, providing safe housing alternatives, and supporting reintegration with families. The organization collaborates with volunteers, landlords, and partners to create inclusive, supportive environments for at-risk youth.
