Description

At the centre of Downhome Publishing Incorporated is the desire to share with the world the best of everything the down home lifestyle has to offer. From the scenery to the arts, from the people to their values, we celebrate what it means to live in and hail from the east coast. How do we do that? Our first tool is Downhome magazine, the largest paid circulation magazine in Atlantic Canada and number 31 among all paid circulation publications in the country. Its portrayal of the east coast lifestyle - through personal stories, stunning photos and investigations into current issues - has proven mass appeal. Currently, more than 50,000 copies of Downhome are published each month and distributed worldwide, reaching an estimated readership of 225,000 (60 per cent of whom reside in Atlantic Canada). In 2006, Downhome was recognized by a national industry magazine as the eighth fastest growing publication in Canada. Our Web site, www.downhomelife.com , offers an interactive, fun and family-friendly place. It, too, is designed to extol the virtues of east coast living, which it does through the sharing of images, stories and ideas between our company and our visitors. Downhome receives more than 10,000 submissions per year. In 2005, Downhome expanded on its Internet and magazine development success with the launch of Castnet Design . With a staff that has nearly 20 years combined experience in creating web and print material, Castnet Design knows how to apply down home principles to designing attractive and inviting web sites, as well as a wide array of materials for print marketing. In fact, the number of Downhome special interest Web sites continue to grow, with the addition of www.downhomerealestate.ca , and www.downhomeoutdoors.com . The latter is an online guide to outdoor living in Newfoundland and Labrador, and the source for Downhome's annual publication, the "Life is Better Outdoors" travel and vacation guide. In addition to the magazine and the Web site, Downhome Publishing Incorporated has a flourishing retail business. More than 2,500 products with an east coast flair are sold in the Downhome Shoppe and Gallery on Water Street in St. John's, through mail order, and online through www.shopdownhome.com , making it the largest selection of down east items in the world. Through Downhome Distribution, the company supplies specialty stores across the country with east coast products. As a book publisher, Downhome Publishing Incorporated has produced three best-selling volumes of its Household Almanac and Cookbook. Downhome Memories, released in late 2005, has been selling very well. And in 2006, the company released the Dictionary of Newfoundland and Labrador, which has become another best-selling Downhome title. In the spring of 2007, Salty's Family Fun Book became the first independent publication of the wildly popular puzzles (original creations by Downhome's founding editor, Ron Young) that are a traditional part of Downhome magazine. Later that year, the company released its first pictorial book, Downhome Reflections, compiled entirely of photographs taken by readers of the magazine.
