The Canadian Cancer Society is a national, community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer. Our vision is to create a world where no Canadian fears cancer. What Makes the Canadian Cancer Society Different? The Canadian Cancer Society is the nationally respected voice on all cancer issues. We fund the most research, support the most people and fight to prevent all types of cancer. Since 1938, the Canadian Cancer Society has operated as a national charitable organization providing valuable cancer information, funding research and educating Canadians on cancer risks. In British Columbia and the Yukon, the Society works with approximately 20,000 volunteers in over 80 communities delivering local support and prevention programs, advocating for healthy public policies, operating a toll-free cancer information service and providing cancer information in a variety of languages. In addition, the Canadian Cancer Society has funded almost $30 million in BC based research over the last five years and recently established the Canadian Cancer Society Chair in Primary Prevention of Cancer at UBC. The Canadian Cancer Society provides a range of prevention and support services which include a toll-free cancer information line (1-888-939-3333); free transportation for patients to and from cancer treatments; lodges for patients receiving treatment away from home; and summer camps including Camp Goodtimes for children and families coping with cancer.
