August 12 was a good day for racing. Matt Wynen and I travelled up to Midland to do the Mountainview 9 hour relay race. Once again we both rode solo on our single speeds. We both had our best races ever with Matt coming in 2nd and me in 4th. The promoter, Thomas Wood, is still in highschool and put together the best course of the season. Lots of unique challenges suck as exposed granite boulders to ride over and nasty sand traps that sucked the energy from your legs. Unlike some of the bigger events the course was mostly single track with just enough wide open sections to allow easy passing. While this was at a ski center with a far bit of climbing it was laid out so that while hard, all the climbs were rideable on the single speed. After 8 laps I took to stategically walking some of the steeper climbs to keep from paying for it on the smaller climbs that followed.
