Our Neuropsychologists are active participants in regular team meetings, program planning and staff training. Each residential unit has weekly, designated consultation time during which program plans are created and modified. Staff are assisted in understanding the complex relationships between an individual's injury, history, personality and the environment. Often, time is spent seeing individual clients and providing direct supervision and being a role model for staff in interactions with clients.

The CHIRS Community Placement partnership with the Ministry of Community and Social Services and the City of Toronto began in 1997. As a host agency, CHIRS' role is to provide opportunities for individuals in the community to develop vocational skills and meaningful work and life experience. Many of the volunteer candidates face employment barriers such as language difficulties, as well as a lack of Canadian work experience, employment skills, and professional job references.

The board, staff and clients of CHIRS are thrilled to announce that we have won the Business Excellence Award for "Business of the Year - Innovation and Leadership" from the Toronto Board of Trade, North York Chamber of Commerce. This award recognized CHIRS as providing extraordinary service and leadership, innovation and overall excellence.

At CHIRS staff are provided with the training and supervision needed to collaborate with clients and their families to create a lifestyle that is both productive and satisfying. At the core of our model of service delivery are the integration of information related to cognitive abilities and disabilities, personal goals and available community supports. A team of professionals, including neuropsychologists, a neuropsychiatrist, and social workers, provides regular supervision to assist staff in understanding the needs and potentials and emotional responses of program participants.

CardSharks+ began in 1995 as a weekly craft program, created in response to requests from individuals who wanted to develop and showcase their creativity. Today, CardSharks+ products include beautiful handcrafted all occasion and holiday greeting cards, as well as a line of jewelry. With money generated from the sale of products, participants are able to cover the cost of materials as well as receive some financial compensation for their work.
