Description

Cole Funeral Services was established in 1993 but our history really dates back to 1924 when a group of Westboro business men, led by John E. Cole, acquired a piece of land on Baseline Road consisting of 20 acres, for the establishment of a Cemetery. Pinecrest Cemetery was designed and opened for interments in 1926. In 1956 another 30 acres of land were purchased. In 1962 the first Crematorium between Toronto and Montreal was established. An Urn Garden and outdoor Niche Wall for cremated remains was built. In 1968 a new Administration Building and Chapel were build and dedicated. In 1971 a second Crematorium and an indoor Columbarium Room were built to provide for increased cremation needs in the Ottawa area. In 1978 Eastern Ontario's first Garden Crypt Mausoleum was completed for those families preferring above ground burial. Additions were completed in 1984 and 1990 offering both indoor and outdoor crypts. In 1978, 120 acres of land was purchased for Highland Park Cemetery. The 1990's saw the addition of on-site reception and visitation rooms at Pinecrest, making this location the first full service cemetery facility in Ontario. From this small beginning, Pinecrest Remembrance Services Ltd. has provided burial, entombment and cremation services without distinction of class or creed under the direction of the same family management in what has grown to become one of the most modern and reputable Cemeteries and Crematoriums in Canada.
