My father, Walter Christenson, was born and raised in Parry Sound cottage country, heart of the 30,000 islands. He started CHRISTENSON CONSTRUCTION in 1943 - six years before I was born and twenty-four years before I began to work seriously by his side. Throughout the rest of his life his inner circle of friends included many of his island and shoreline customers. With his cheerful "there's always a way" attitude he was there without fail to help with their building and maintenance needs. Everyone I've talked to was inspired by the quality of his workmanship as well as by the means of it: he only had one arm. Myself and my small crew of qualified tradesmen are proud to carry on his tradition. And although these days we are as likely to be wiring a photovoltaic system as carrying 8x8 timbers to the top of a steep island, as likely to be solving our structural problems with 3D AutoCAD software on a laptop as eye-balling a timber-fall, our mission remains the same as my father's: to help the customer with a vision. We are not developers. We have built executive homes and outhouses, designed elegant additions and organic decks. We are fully licensed - we recycle - our projects tend to blend with their surroundings - and their owners tend to keep in touch. Keeping in touch accounts for 80% of our business.
