The President and driving force behind The Checker Group was Allan Enders, who started out in the taxi business in 1975 by purchasing Killarney Taxi and to this date it remains a family business. Checker Yellow Cabs was introduced to Calgary in 1984 when he realized that taxi service in Calgary was in serious need of improvement. Deciding to emphasize quality and service, he started with twelve full-sized luxury sedans, with drivers attired in suits.
