Since our founding, Cells for Life has remained under the same ownership. Though our mission to provide life-saving cord blood services at the lowest cost to families remains the same, our passion has only continued to grow. While Cells for Life is a private company, our team is driven to make cord blood therapies available to the Canadian public. We are currently the only Canadian cord blood bank that provides support to a public bank .

Cells for Life is one of the first cord blood companies in Canada. We take pride in the fact that Cells for Life was founded in 1997 by medical professionals and continues to be managed by a professional team of doctors, scientists and registered nurses. Our Medical Director, Obstetrician Dr. Michael Virro is supported by our clinical educators whom have extensive experience in labour & delivery and pediatrics.

Our staff also includes nurses who have over 20 years of experience in labour and delivery, and pediatrics. They also educate health professionals to optimize cord blood collection methods. On an ongoing basis, our staff is involved with continuing education programs and competency testing.

It’s stories like Patricia’s that inspired the Cells for Life Medical Need Program, which was established in 2002. Cells for Life became the first cord blood bank in Canada to provide funding to expectant parents with a family member who is suffering from a disease that can be treated with cord blood stem cells in the near future.

We continue to care for your child's cord blood stem cells in our state-of-the-art laboratory at Toronto General Hospital.
