Description
Celine Cimon was born in Quebec City, in 1959. She graduated in 1981 from a three-year C.E.G.E.P. program called Esthetique de presentation in Ste-Foy, Quebec. This program focuses on the three-dimensional aspect of product presentation through the use of various materials and mediums, which include photography, woodworking, welding, airbrushing, architectural rendering, colour theory and application and plaster casting. Graduates from this program often enter into fields such as window dressing, television and film set design, and architectural model making. In 1981, Ms. Cimon moved to Toronto where she learned English and expanded her knowledge of three-dimensional art and design by working in architectural model making (1981 to 1984). From 1985 to 1988, she also gained experience as a sculptor, working in special effects for the motion picture industry. Ms. Cimon has been developing and perfecting her woodcarving approach and colour style in a self-taught manner since 1984. In 1999, she also introduced the use of hydrostone and fiberglass which has allowed her to create larger and lighter sculptures and in some cases, limited editions. Celine’s love of sculpture expanded to the painting medium in 2003 where she could further focus on her other love: colour. Creating bolder, deeper shapes on canvas allows her to continue her sculptural tradition while exploring new techniques in 2-D, such as trompe-l’oeil. She is also venturing into the world of the “Impromtu” style, a departure from the very controlled airbrushing technique. Using a simple brush, acrylic gel, sometimes oil pastels and a multitude of layers of colours, its results resemble an encaustic finish with a definite depth with a 3-D effect.
