Description

Cano Coatings inception was derived from the problems associated with conventional cementitious stucco. In 1994, the founder of Cano Coatings was involved in an international construction project in Germany. A large multi-family building was finished using a conventional cementitious stucco. The project was completed and everything seemed fine. However, in Germany there are very strict consumer protection laws. The builder is required to fix any little minor problem associated with construction, up to five years after completion. Regardless of whom the manufacturer or contractor is, cementitious stucco will always crack. As such, our founder was asked by the homeowners to return to Germany, to repair the small cracks in the stucco. The attempted repair was hopeless. No one can repair cracks in cementitious stucco by applying more cementitious product. Three trips from Canada to Germany, and three attempts to fix the cementitious stucco were ineffective. Back home in Canada, our founder was discussing the issue with a neighbor in our business park. The neighbor mentioned he created a new stucco system, with the basecoat formulated from recycled rubber tires. This new system consisted of a rubber basecoat, a fiberglass reinforcing mesh, an elastomeric midcoat and an acrylic stucco finish coat. This new stucco system does not crack, and would bridge the small, hairline cracks in the cementitious stucco. Being at wits end, our founder was ready to try any solution. ...
