Description

The trackers are designed and manufactured by Canatec, a company with decades of personnel experience in sea ice studies and operations in remote polar environments. Canatec’s state of the art instruments have been tested in cold chambers, mountain tops, in the Arctic and Antarctica. Recent full-scale 3-beacon drift program on ice in the Beaufort Sea. They are based upon Canatec’s proven design of beacons used to track Arctic ice floes for up to 2 years.

Canatec has worked with a large number of offshore petroleum companies involved in the Beaufort, Chukchi, Caspian, Sakhalin and Fram Strait operations, in addition to many seismic, drilling and shipping companies in these regions for the last 30 years. Canatec supplied ice forecasting and satellite imagery for the Arctic Coring North Pole scientific drilling expedition in 2004. We are familiar with latest ISO design methods for Arctic offshore structures.

Canatec is a Canadian company based in Calgary, first formed in 1988 and reincorporated in 2001. The Partners and Senior Associates all have about 3 decades of experience in sea ice. Canatec has 7 full time staff and 3 Senior Associates who work almost exclusively for the company.

Canatec ( www.canatec.ca ) is a Calgary-based company with offices in The Hague and St. John’s that has been involved in ice image analysis to support offshore petroleum operations in the Arctic for 30 years. We are a world leader in this niche. Canatec carries out analyses of ice environments by field and desk studies, supports field operational projects with on-site personnel at sea, develops specialized ice analysis software and ice tracking instrumentation, and trains ice advisory teams.

Canatec has a great deal of experience in designing, fabricating and deploying complex instrument platforms for measuring meteorological and oceanographic conditions in Arctic and other ice-covered regions. These instrument systems are rapidly deployed by an experienced field team. Data are transmitted by Iridium satellite, so there is real time data collection and no need to recover the instrument, which is usually extremely difficult and expensive in remote polar regions. Instrument packages can be configured to meet user requirements.
