Description

The Burns Bog Conservation Society is a registered charity founded in 1988. We began as a small group of dedicated people determined to see to the "conservation and protection of Burns Bog forever." Our members and donors currently number close to 5,000. Burns Bog is the largest undeveloped urban landmass in North America and has traditionally been under threat of development. The Burns Bog Conservation Society has successfully spearheaded a number of campaigns against its development, such as the proposal to move the Pacific National Exhibition onto the bog in 1999. Through continuous and concerted public education campaigns, the Society has made the conservation of Burns Bog into an issue of provincial, national and international interest. The bog has not only been in the political spotlight but has also been featured on television programs such as The Nature of Things, and The Canadian Gardener due to its unique flora and fauna...
