Description

Stephanie Neate obtained her Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University in 2006, with a major in Sociology and a minor in French. She subsequently earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Western Ontario in 2009, where she was actively involved in many student committees and volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada. Prior to her call to the Ontario Bar in 2010, Stephanie summered and articled with a prominent criminal defence firm in Toronto. She subsequently joined an established insurance defence firm in Toronto, with a practice focused on disability insurance claims.

Since its origins, which date back to the 1920s, Black Sutherland operates with a simple objective: to provide clients with excellent, timely and cost-effective legal advice. Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, Black Sutherland serves a broad base of clients, principally in Ontario, while maintaining worldwide professional relationships through its membership in International Law Firms , an international association of independent law firms.

Black Sutherland is committed to providing excellent service to its clients while retaining an awareness of the economic implications of legal proceedings. We strive to establish and maintain long-lasting, mutually rewarding partnerships with our clients.

Black Sutherland’s insurance litigation lawyers have extensive trial experience with an excellent record of success. Significant areas of our practice include personal injury, occupiers’ liability, product liability, comprehensive general liability, professional negligence actions, medical malpractice, disability claims, transportation claims, marine losses, fire losses, arson and property losses.

While at various times in the past we have hired experienced associates to meet our growth needs, the Firm looks to its students as the main source of future growth, and over the past four years has hired back most of its articling students based on their demonstrated work ethic, initiative and abilities. The Firm's approach to growth has been balanced with the desire to preserve the existing positive cultural environment, and to ensure that new members of the Firm will fit within that culture.
